It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, teammate and friend, Peyton Leigh Walker, who passed away peacefully at her home in Wainwright on September 23, 2026, at the age of 17, surrounded by the love of her family.
Peyton was born on May 20, 2009, in St. Paul, Alberta, to Scott and Stacey Walker. She was the much-loved big sister of Carson Walker and brought love, laughter and light to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Peyton will be lovingly remembered by her parents, Scott and Stacey; her brother, Carson; her grandparents, Kevin and Lori Walker and Carole Bergum; her aunts and uncles, Deanne (Jim) Nichol, Lesley (Daryll) Robinson, Heather (Jeff) Wells and Andrea (Shawn) Miller; and her many cousins: Hailey, Madyson and Emerson Nichol; Callan, Kya and Rayna Robinson; Sawyer, Reed and Halle Wells; and Blayke and Rylan Miller. She will also be deeply missed by her boyfriend, Hunter Spilchuk, as well as her many great-aunts, great-uncles, extended family members, teammates and countless friends whose lives she touched.
Peyton was predeceased by her Grandpa Delmore Bergum and her great-grandparents.
Those who knew Peyton will remember her for her soft-spoken, easygoing nature and quiet confidence. She was a natural leader who never needed to be the loudest person in the room. Her kindness, calm demeanour and genuine personality naturally drew people toward her. Behind her quiet nature was a wonderful sense of humour and a quick wit that could catch people completely off guard. Peyton had a special way of making people laugh and bringing joy to those around her.
A natural athlete, Peyton seemed to excel at almost everything she tried. Her greatest passion, however, was hockey. She fell in love with the game at a young age, and her determination, work ethic and talent took her to teams at both the local and provincial levels.
Peyton found a second home in Lloydminster, first playing with the Blazers and later becoming part of the Steelers program, where she spent five years. The Lloydminster hockey community, her coaches, billet families, and the many past and present teammates who became some of her closest friends will forever hold a special place in her family's hearts.
Away from the rink, Peyton enjoyed school sports, spending time with her friends and cousins, visiting with her grandparents and being outdoors with her family. Some of her happiest memories were made camping at Kimball and Clear Lake, boating, enjoying water sports and simply spending time with the people she loved.
Family meant everything to Peyton. She shared a particularly special bond with her cousins and grandparents, and many of her closest friendships were found within her own family. As the oldest cousin on one side and right in the middle on the other, Peyton grew up surrounded by cousins who were not only family but also some of her closest friends. The memories they created together will be treasured forever.
Above all, Peyton loved her little brother, Carson. Their bond was extraordinary, and the love they shared was unmistakable. Carson looked up to his big sister immensely, while Peyton was always incredibly proud of him. Through her kindness, determination, courage and quiet strength, she became an extraordinary role model for her little brother. The lessons she gave him through the way she lived her life will remain with him forever.
At just 14 years old, Peyton was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer. Over the next three years, she faced challenges far beyond what most people encounter in a lifetime. Yet Peyton approached every obstacle in the same way she approached life—with quiet courage, determination and strength.
She trusted those caring for her, continued to find reasons to smile and faced each day by simply doing what needed to be done. Her courage throughout those years was remarkable.
Cancer was a part of Peyton's story, but it never defined who she was. She remained a daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin, friend, teammate and hockey player. She continued to live her life with the same kindness, humour and determination that had always made her who she was. She fought with incredible strength until the very end, leaving behind an example of courage and grace that will never be forgotten.
Peyton's life was far too short, but the impact she made was anything but small. Her family, friends, teammates and community will continue to carry her memory forward by sharing her stories, remembering her laughter and celebrating the life she lived.
She will forever be loved, forever be missed and forever be a part of the lives of those who knew her.
Celebration of Life
A celebration of Peyton's life will take place on October 1, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Wainwright Peace Memorial Multiplex.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, if desired, to the Team Peyton Trust Fund Account. Proceeds will support a variety of charities and causes chosen by Peyton and in her honour.
Her memory will live on in every story shared, every game remembered, every family gathering and in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
