Moncton, NB — The community of Moncton, New Brunswick, is mourning the loss of Todd Burgess, affectionately known as “Toddy Cruise,” a beloved bartender and staff member at Holy Whale Brewing Co., who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.
A lifelong resident of Riverview, New Brunswick, Todd was known for his infectious energy, generosity, and unwavering positivity. Friends and colleagues remember him as someone who could light up any room, offering encouragement and support even while facing his own health challenges.
“I didn’t know Todd as well as he and I both planned, but when he was diagnosed, he reached out alongside others so we could support each other,” one friend said.
“We would check in on each other, making sure we were in the right mindspace, encouraging each other to keep the fight going with positivity in our hearts. Todd would regularly check in the most, even though he had it tougher than all of us. I will never forget your fight, heart, your friendship.”
Todd’s career in hospitality reflected his passion for community and connection. Since March 2022, he had been a valued member of both Holy Whale Brewing Co. and Buddha Bear Coffee Roaster, where his dedication, warmth, and humor made him a cherished presence for both coworkers and patrons.
Known for his ability to make everyone feel welcomed, Todd became a cornerstone of the local social scene, remembered for more than just his work behind the bar—he was a friend, mentor, and source of joy for many.
Outside of work, Todd was a devoted brother to Scott Burgess and a loving son to Linda Burgess. He also maintained close bonds with extended family members, including Krista Mike Cherry. His personal relationships mirrored his professional one: built on trust, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
Throughout his illness, Todd’s courage and optimism inspired those around him.
