Palm Coast Woman Killed in Domestic Violence Incident; Husband Also Found Dead

A Palm Coast man with a reported history of violence fatally shot his wife before taking his own life in what authorities described as a planned murder-suicide, according to Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly.

The shooting happened shortly after 10 p.m. on Sept. 30 at a home on Weyanoke Lane in Palm Coast. Sheriff Staly provided details during a news conference Oct. 1 at the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office operations center in Bunnell.

Authorities identified the man as 55-year-old Rakim-Shakur Khalil-Abdullah. Investigators said he shot his wife, Dawn Estrella, multiple times inside the residence before going into the garage, where he fatally shot himself.

Deputies were dispatched to the home after receiving reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they discovered Khalil-Abdullah dead from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the garage. Estrella was found deceased inside the home.

Sheriff Staly said Estrella had been planning to leave her husband, adding another significant detail to the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident. Investigators are continuing to examine what led to the shooting and whether any warning signs or previous incidents played a role.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office said the case remains under active investigation. Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, and this is a developing story that may be updated as more information becomes available.
