The Bellwood-Antis School District community is mourning the death of ninth-grade student Ian Ulrich, who died following a bicycle accident over the weekend.
Superintendent Edward DiSabato informed district families of Ulrich's death in a message sent Monday. According to the district, the student died as a result of the bicycle accident. Officials did not release additional information about the circumstances of the crash.
The news has left students, teachers, staff members, and families grieving the loss of a young member of the Bellwood-Antis community.
“This heartbreaking loss has deeply affected our school community,” DiSabato wrote in his message. He extended thoughts, prayers, and condolences to Ulrich's family, friends, classmates, and everyone who knew and loved him.
School Offers Support to Students and Staff
Following the student's death, the Bellwood-Antis School District said additional support would be available to members of the school community who are struggling with the loss.
The district's Crisis Intervention Team, school counselors, and other support staff will be available to students and employees who need assistance processing their grief. Officials emphasized the importance of ensuring that students have access to trusted adults and appropriate support during this difficult period.
District officials are also encouraging parents and guardians to speak openly with their children about the tragedy, listen to their concerns, and provide reassurance and support as they process the news.

“The Bellwood-Antis community has always come together in difficult times, and we will do so again,” DiSabato said.
