Hawaiian Electric customers across Hawaii are continuing to monitor power-service conditions as localized outages affect portions of the islands. Recent outage data indicates that the number of customers without electricity remains relatively small compared with HECO’s overall customer base, although conditions can change quickly as crews respond to individual incidents.
As of the latest available outage information, Hawaiian Electric was reporting outages affecting customers in its service territory, including parts of Honolulu County, Maui County, and Hawaii County. Because outage numbers and affected areas can change throughout the day, customers are encouraged to check HECO’s official outage maps for the most current information.
The recent outages come as Hawaiian Electric has been preparing for possible severe weather impacts. The utility said it was monitoring Tropical Storm Nolo and taking precautionary measures, including preparing crews, equipment, and replacement materials in case strong winds or other weather-related conditions cause damage to the electrical system.
Residents experiencing an outage should report it directly to Hawaiian Electric, even if they believe the company is already aware of the problem. HECO notes that its outage map can experience delays when multiple outages occur, and restoration estimates and customer counts may change as crews assess conditions in the field.
Recent outages have also affected areas of Oahu. On September 20, thousands of customers in the Hawaii Kai area temporarily lost power before service was restored later that evening. Hawaiian Electric reported that the outage initially affected approximately 13,750 customers.
Residents should remain alert to official updates, particularly if severe weather develops. Anyone encountering downed power lines should stay away from them and report the hazard to the appropriate authorities.
