Two-Vehicle Crash Reported in Creston; No Injuries Reported

Creston, Iowa — A two-vehicle collision occurred Tuesday afternoon in Creston, though fortunately no injuries were reported, according to a report from the Creston Police Department.

Authorities say the crash took place at approximately 3:09 p.m. on March 5 along Highway 34 near Laurel Street, a busy area frequently used by local commuters and residents traveling through the city.

According to the police report, a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville, driven by Daysen A. Gregg, 19, of Lenox, was traveling westbound on Highway 34 at the time of the accident. At the same time, a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado, driven by Kolyn E. Beckwith, 18, of Corning, was traveling eastbound and attempting to turn north onto Laurel Street from the highway.

Investigators say the collision occurred as Beckwith attempted to make the turn across the westbound lanes of traffic. The Pontiac Bonneville struck the Chevrolet Colorado during the maneuver, resulting in a significant impact between the two vehicles.

The force of the crash caused the Chevrolet Colorado to spin approximately 360 degrees before eventually coming to a stop on the roadway. Despite the dramatic nature of the collision, both drivers were able to avoid serious injury, and no medical treatment was required at the scene.

Police noted that both drivers stated they had a green traffic signal at the time of the accident. However, further investigation determined that Beckwith failed to yield the right-of-way while making the left turn across oncoming traffic, which ultimately led to the collision.

Left-turn crashes are among the more common types of roadway accidents at intersections, as drivers must carefully judge the speed and distance of approaching vehicles before crossing traffic lanes. Authorities remind motorists to exercise caution and ensure that it is safe to proceed before attempting such turns.

Both vehicles sustained moderate damage in the crash. Authorities estimated the damage to each vehicle at approximately $5,000, bringing the total estimated damage from the incident to around $10,000.

Emergency responders and law enforcement briefly managed traffic in the area while the scene was cleared and the vehicles were removed from the roadway. The incident caused only minor disruptions to traffic along Highway 34 during the afternoon hours.

Although accidents at intersections can often lead to serious injuries, officials noted that this incident ended without physical harm to those involved. Police continue to encourage drivers to remain alert and follow traffic rules, especially when navigating busy intersections or making turns across multiple lanes of traffic.
