The Lemont community is mourning the loss of Eleni Giannakopoulos, a vibrant and radiant 15-year-old whose life, though brief, left an enduring impact on all who knew her. Eleni passed away surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of joy, passion, and authenticity.
Eleni, a student at Lemont High School, was known for her remarkable ability to connect with others. She valued friendship, loyalty, and kindness, and had the rare gift of making people feel truly seen and appreciated. Her sense of humor, always perfectly timed, could lift spirits even on the toughest days, leaving an impression that friends and family will carry with them forever.
A gifted performer, Eleni trained in ballet at the Hinsdale Dance Academy and earned recognition at the 2023 Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) for her classical pointe performance in La Fille Mal Gardée.
Beyond dance, she excelled in golf, capturing first place in her age group in 2022, and was a talented musician, performing piano and guitar at the Kennedy Center and Ryman Auditorium with her music academy, Allegro. Whether through dance, sports, or music, Eleni poured her heart into every endeavor.
Eleni had a deep love for travel, adventure, and the outdoors, often finding peace and joy at the ocean, where she could feel the warmth of the sun and the rhythm of the waves. Even when physical activities were limited, she poured her energy into friendships, fashion, and skincare, becoming a joyful presence and a source of care for those around her.
Above all, Eleni was a devoted daughter, sister, granddaughter, and niece. She shared a unique bond with her triplet siblings, Niko and Georgia, growing up together through countless adventures, conversations, and shared dreams.
Their unwavering closeness, along with the love of her parents, Sotirios “Sam” and Angela Giannakopoulos, and extended family, shaped a foundation of love that carried her through life. She also shared a special connection with the family dog, Harmony, who remained faithfully by her side.
Family, friends, and the broader Lemont community will forever remember Eleni for her gentle soul, radiant spirit, and the joy she brought into every moment.
Eleni is survived by her parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. A funeral service will be held at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church on March 13, 2026, with interment at Bronswood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations in Eleni’s honor to continue the love and joy she shared.
“She chose to live — and she did.” Her light will shine in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
