A tragic car accident north of Ridgeland, South Carolina, has left one person dead and another injured, according to officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP). According to preliminary reports from SCHP, the accident happened during the evening hours on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, along West Frontage Road near the intersection with Gregory Neck Road, roughly eight miles north of Ridgeland. Troopers say both vehicles were heading north on West Frontage Road when one of the vehicles, identified as a Chevrolet Suburban, reportedly veered off the left side of the roadway before returning to the road and striking a Dodge Ram pickup truck. The force of the collision caused the pickup truck to leave the roadway, overturn, and eventually strike a tree.
Emergency crews quickly responded to the crash scene after receiving reports of a serious collision. When first responders arrived, they discovered the driver of the Dodge Ram had suffered fatal injuries. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. Officials later identified the victim as 37-year-old Kraig Daniel Blatchley Jr. of Ridgeland.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevrolet Suburban was also involved in the crash but survived the incident. Authorities confirmed that the driver was transported to Memorial Health in Savannah, Georgia, for medical treatment. The extent of the driver’s injuries has not been fully disclosed.
Investigators say that after colliding with the pickup truck, the Chevrolet Suburban also left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and overturned. The violent sequence of impacts left both vehicles severely damaged and required emergency crews to secure the scene while troopers began their investigation.
