A murder investigation is actively underway in Dothan, Alabama, after authorities discovered the body of a local man inside a partially submerged pickup truck early Friday morning, sending shockwaves through the community and prompting a significant police response near a busy commercial corridor.
According to officials, the incident occurred near the DoubleTree Hotel along Ross Clark Circle, close to the CarMax sign. Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the area after receiving reports of a suspicious vehicle in a small roadside ditch containing water.
Upon arrival, officers found a truck partially submerged, with a deceased man inside. Emergency responders quickly secured the scene as investigators began working to determine what led to the man’s death.
The area was cordoned off for several hours as Dothan Police Department officers held up privacy sheets to shield the scene from traffic and onlookers. A wrecker was later called in to carefully remove the truck from the ditch, drawing attention from motorists along the heavily traveled roadway.
The Houston County Coroner’s Office was also seen at the scene, confirming the seriousness of the incident. Coroner Robert Byrd later identified the victim as Wesley Blake Bowen, a 33-year-old resident of Dothan.
Byrd confirmed that Bowen’s next of kin have been notified, and arrangements are being made to transport his body to Montgomery, where an autopsy will be conducted to officially determine the cause and manner of death.

As the investigation unfolded, police activity extended beyond the initial scene. Two individuals were reportedly briefly detained near a Bojangles restaurant in the area but were released after being questioned.
Additionally, another person was possibly detained on Stonewood Drive off Fortner Street, though officials have not confirmed the details surrounding that encounter.
Dothan Police Major Glover addressed the situation, stating that one person of interest has been detained, but emphasized that no charges have been filed at this time.
Investigators continue to follow multiple leads as they work to piece together the events that led to Bowen’s death. Authorities have not indicated whether the victim knew the individual detained or whether the incident was targeted or random.
In an effort to advance the case, the Dothan Police Department has released a photo of a man they are seeking to identify, believing he may be connected to the investigation.
