David Austin McCourt, a devoted husband, father, veteran, and beloved friend, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026, in Little Rock, Arkansas. His untimely death resulted from a two-car accident while traveling to Alabama to perform storm cleanup work, a testament to his dedication and willingness to help others in times of need.
David was born on February 7, 1989, in Buckhannon, West Virginia. He grew up in Webster County, attending local schools where he actively participated in extracurricular activities and athletics.
David played on the Highlander Football team, competing in the state playoffs twice and serving as Team Captain during his senior year. His versatility on the field and his leadership qualities were a reflection of the character and determination he carried throughout his life.
After high school, David attended Fairmont State College for one year before enlisting in the United States Navy. During his six-year service, he served in the Special Forces S-E-R-E Division and was deployed twice each to Afghanistan and Iraq.
David traveled to nearly 30 countries while on duty, forging lifelong friendships and connections across the globe. His time in the military strengthened his resilience and enriched his worldview, earning him admiration and respect from those he met.
It was during his military service that David met Diane Taylor, the love of his life, and her son Aden. Their long-distance relationship endured through his deployments, culminating in a family with two more sons, Myles Austin and Chase William.
Following his military career, David pursued training to become a lineman, embarking on a successful career in the field. Known for his generosity, kindness, and approachable nature, David loved his family and friends unconditionally. He had a remarkable ability to form meaningful relationships, earning him the distinction of having “hundreds of best friends.”
David was preceded in death by his father, David Austin McCourt, who passed in 1993, as well as his fraternal grandparents, Nada June and Golden James McCourt, and maternal grandfather, Nelson E. Davis, Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife Diane, his sons Aden, Myles, and Chase, his grandmother Carroll Ann Davis, and siblings Ashley (and husband Andy Ray), Nada June (and husband Ryan Gilles), Matt (and wife Jess), and Billy Green.
He is also survived by his special cousin Kenny Hall and his honorary parents, Mike and Connie Robinson, along with their children, Meganne and Quinten Robinson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
Funeral services to celebrate David’s life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home in Webster Springs, with Pastor Marty Cowger officiating.
Interment will follow at Harrison Cochran Cemetery. David Austin McCourt will be remembered for his unwavering love for family, his selfless service, and the joy and warmth he brought into the lives of all who knew him.
